SMITH Lowdown XL 2 Unisex ChromaPop Polarized Tortuga Mate Frame Brown Lens Sunglasses

Chose these from a lineup of the more “popular” brands for fishing and beach days. The lenses were clearer than the competition and allowed me to see through the water more easily when targeting fish inshore. The nose pads sealed the deal. Very comfortable all day on the water. My only negative is that they’re a pain to keep clean in the salt air and sweat.

I bought these for my wife as she loves Smith for their looks, value and durability. She looks great in them and that makes her happy and if she's happy, I'm happy.

Very comfortable frame. Good fit, keeping the lenses away from the face unlike some of the closer fitting variants with base 6 frames. These glasses are base 4. Only complaints are of course the high price and the fact that the so-called chroma pop feature really does nothing perceptible at all. The only real benefit in terms of enhanced color depth or saturation is coming from the polarization. Side-by-side comparison with the native Wells XL shows essentially identical visual results. The enhancement is being created by the polarization not by any little filtering tweaks. I will say, however, that while the Native Wells XL provides essentially identical visual results, the wearing experience of the lowdown is much more pleasant and comfortable. Obviously, this is highly subjective. It will vary from user to user. But if the frame shape of the native wells works for you, it’s only about 1/3 cost of the lowdowns so go for it.

True to the name, colors do "pop". Perhaps not as much as the advertising would lead you to think, but the effect is there, and I do like the effect. Overall width is not as much as some other XL sunglasses, but they are definitely bigger than average. I would call them "large", instead of "XL". Just be aware that these sunglasses do not block as much visible light as most other reasonably dark sunglasses. Overall though, I am happy with them.
